Your dentist will also take impressions of your mouth, which the lab will use to make a replica of your mouth. Your new set of teeth will be custom-made to fit comfortably in your mouth.

Dentures vs. Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. A fixed bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth that are held in place by crowns affixed to the teeth on both sides of the gap. Traditional bridges require grinding down adjacent teeth to support the crowns. Dentures are a complete set of teeth, usually used to replace multiple missing teeth.

Dentures vs. Dental Implants

A denture is a removable tooth replacement option that rests on the gums. They are held in place with adhesive and can be removed for cleaning. On the other hand, dental implants are permanently attached to the jawbone, offering a permanent solution to missing teeth.

Since dentures are removable, they do not provide the stability that dental implants do. Dental implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone so they fuse with the bone to create a strong foundation.

What are Partial Dentures?

Full dentures replace an arch of teeth. Partial dentures replace only one or a few teeth in a row. Both types of dentures are removable and can be easily removed for cleaning. A full denture sits on top of the gums and is made of an acrylic base that looks like gum tissue. Porcelain is another option, and it may be recommended for patients with metal allergies.

The denture is then secured to the gums using natural suction, denture adhesives, or dental implants. Partial dentures are attached to a metal frame that rests against the gums. The teeth are then attached to the frame using metal clasps.

Sinus lifts

A sinus lift corrects a recessed gum line. This occurs when the jawbone recedes, often as a result of tooth loss or periodontal disease. A sinus lift restores the natural contours of the gums and jaw.

During a sinus lift, an incision is made in the gum tissue. This provides access to the bone and tissue that overlay the roots of the upper teeth. The tissue is reshaped, and the bone is adjusted to an ideal height. Then, the gum tissue is repositioned over the bone and sutured in place. A sinus lift is often performed along with other procedures, such as placing dental implants or preparing teeth for dentures.
